Text size VI

How to make text bigger on Android

There are two ways. Big Font gives you the most sizes and a one-tap undo. Your phone's own settings work too, with fewer sizes.

Way 1: with Big Font

Best if the phone's own largest size is still too small, or if you want to try sizes without getting lost in Settings.

  1. Install Big Font

Open Google Play, search for “Big Font” and tap Install. It's free. Open in Google Play

  2. Pick a size

Open Big Font. Each size shows a sample line, “ABC abc 123”. Tap Apply next to the size that's comfortable. For a size in between, tap Choose your own size and use the slider.

  3. Allow it once

The first time, Big Font shows which switch to turn on. Tap Open Settings, turn on Allow modifying system settings for A+ Big Font, then go back.

  4. Done — or Undo

You'll see “Font size changed”. Tap Done to keep it, or Undo to go back to the size you had before.

Not sure which size? Try 130% first, then go up one step at a time. A size that's too big can make some apps cut words off.

Way 2: with your phone's own settings

Every Android phone has a text size setting, but it lives in a slightly different place on each brand. Tap your brand:

Samsung Galaxy
  1. Open SettingsDisplayFont size and style
  2. Drag the Font size slider to the right.
  3. Optional: turn on Bold font to make letters thicker.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO
  1. Open SettingsDisplayText size
  2. Choose a bigger size on the scale.
Google Pixel and most other phones
  1. Open SettingsDisplayDisplay size and text (on older Android: DisplayFont size).
  2. Drag the Font size slider to the right.
Can't find it?

Open Settings, tap the search box at the top and type font size. The right setting appears in the results.

Even easier to read

A few apps use their own fixed text size and don't follow the phone's setting. For those, Big Font's Read screen can show the text large and read it out loud.
